I say mountain & mountainbike bike and not because this route has been a combined mountain bike and hiking (or something a little harder). The challenge of the day was, starting from El Pueyo de Jaca, up to Ibon of Sabocos mountain bike, park the bike and begin the ascent to peña Sabocos (2.755 m.). Once there, We walk along the ridge that joins Peña Roya (or Punta Fazera) Peña Blanca and then descend back to our two-wheeled vehicle and down like lightning on track to Hoz de Jaca and again until Pueyo. It is written and does not cost much work, but on the ground, it gets a little harder…but more fun too.
Description bike ride.
We parked the van in Pueyo de Jaca (Valley Tena, 2 km. before reaching Panticosa). Although there is a road that connects with Panticosa, as there are hardly any traffic we decided to start the route by road, and we heat a little that day comes hard.
We spent Panticosa and continue along the road that leads to Baños de Panticosa to cross the Canyon Forronías (we will see a track on the left that goes up and another down the right hand side which is ours). After crossing the river Caldarés, begins a hard climb during 18 km. At first it is harder and makes us think that it will be impossible. Then relax a bit and even at some point llanea. Let we are going up gradually Valle de La Liberal and the way is left to do (although hard in a stretch) until we reached the Refugio O Singl (share 1.570 m.) which features table, chairs, a bed, mattress and fireplace. From here the track is less tread, stone and grass in a stretch and probably have to take your foot occasionally (I several times). China chano arrived to the O refuge Berde (more sober but cleaner than the previous), and from here, a path sometimes hidden under the grass will reach the hill of O Berde (2.088 m.)from which our feet divisiamos Ibón of Sabocos. En nuestro caso, when we got to Refugio O berde, we turn slightly to the left (sure) to gain altitude and reach the Faxa Sabocos, a place less traveled ideal place to leave bikes for a few hours and walk the Ascención a Peña Sabocos (I tell later and ended with the cycling part).
To download from the Collado or Berde to Ibon, no choice but to get off the bike, for it is a path with strong steps and stones that would open us the head in a fall. En el Ibon of Sabocos (1.905 m.) no other refuge very well preserved. It has a folding table, school chairs and fireplace. From the Ibon, We can go right to link with a track that leads up to the Ibón of Asses or straight up pushing the bike path “ass” (I'm not saying what I did). A few meters by track and climb and descent awaits us horror!! 800 m. downhill on a track well trodden mostly. A delight and so much effort rewards. In a moment we will notice that the temperature is softer and looser wind. A few minutes just to undo what has cost us hours and sweat and we planamos in Hoz de Jaca. From this village, and after admiring its hanging viewpoint over the reservoir will go down Búbal other 200 meters on an asphalt road. A piece of llanea and a small final climb will return us back to our van, with empty tanks retina sugar and filled with beautiful views.
Description of the ascent on foot and Peña Sabocos Roya
We left the bike with everything that we are not going to need tied to air and ventured into light mode to find a way to link the normal route of ascent so as not having to lose altitude. Rise few meters straight and…BINGO! white and red painted an old GR (does not appear on any map) They give us hope. Even without path, although the steep road, let it do. We ascend the channel l'Escalar, We skirted a plain (or dry ibón) its east side and began a steep climb up a very steep stone quarry at some point us back our steps. If you are skillful climbing, it is easier to engage any of the cliffs vertical rock climbing and even with a fall a little uglier, it advances rather than the quarry. after a +400 meters upload, we reached a spur in 15 minutes will leave at the top of Sabocos. Stunning views of Tendeñera, Vignemale, Ordesa, los Batanes, Argualas and company, el Midi Ossau, Cotiella, Telera… and many more peaks in the distance. Now it's the fun part and exposed. Crestear DURANTE 2 km with a strong wind that gives you even more room to route. L´Escalar, Punta Mandilar, Punta Fazera (rock Roya) Peña Blanca and be the tops of the day. We began the descent by a colladete there before Peña Roya. The descent is very good for fine quarry and small blocks, following signs of that before GR. When we see that the path loses incline, we will be turning off to our right (it) to link back to the path that leads us to our bike (if still there)….30 minutes hillside and…there's the bike, alone but with all our belongings, como debe ser.
Note: Although for this ascension it is not necessary the use of climbing equipment, It must be accustomed to walking through mountain terrain due to the verticality of the slope, exposure to fall in some parts and in general the terrain that we have to move. This same route with snow, water or ice will greatly complicate the route, so keep that in anticipation. The helmet, You can come in handy, especially if there are more people on the road or if we group, because the rock generally pretty broken and stones can break away from large blocks.
